Resumen : This article highlights the trends that society is undergoing at the present stage. The main changes in the education system of the Republic of Belarus, which occurred at the end of the XX - beginning of the XXI century, are revealed. The work reveals the reasons that are the basis of innovative processes in education. Separately, emphasis is placed on the requirements that society places on a professional teacher.
