Abstract: The prerequisites for concluding agreements on regional economic integration are highlighted (increasing the size of the market, neutralizing the trade policy of the “poor neighbor”, the advantages of the “new economy”, the joint development of digital and nano technologies, the adoption of WTO+ obligations). The possible negative consequences of the creation of integration associations of countries are indicated. The dynamics of the creation of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) for goods and services is shown. The current RTAs in the context of regions and countries, the typology of regional trade agreements are presented. The main reasons for the high growth rates of the number of RTAs in the XXI century are highlighted. The role of the RTAs in the expansion and deepening of the norms of the World Trade Organization is determined. WTO+ agreements have been defined that expand international cooperation between countries in the field of economic sustainability. The characteristics of modern intercontinental RTAs in terms of coverage of states, areas of integration and gross domestic product are given (United States – Mexico – Canada Agreement, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership).
